Over many years, a lack of suitable parking in Weybridge has been raised by Society members as being a major issue facing the Town, with little having been done by Surrey and Elmbridge Councils to provide an overall solution.
However, change is coming, and the Society’s objective of having the situation improved for the benefit of residents and visiting shoppers alike is at last producing real results.
At a meeting in February, councillors from both Surrey and Elmbridge supported the Proposal from the Society, in partnership with the Weybridge Town Business Group, submitted after the completion of a comprehensive information-gathering survey; its data, findings, and the primary cause of the problem were accepted. Read the full Review and Proposal together with the notes of the February meeting.
Surrey Councillors have agreed to present the Proposal to the newly-formed Joint Executive Committee between their Council and Elmbridge and press for it be used as the basis for the next parking review for our Town. In parallel, Elmbridge has committed to complete by 30 June 2018, a feasibility study into the extension of existing public car parks.
Weybridge now needs your support
An e-Petition entitled “Weybridge Parking” and based on the Proposal, has been submitted online to Elmbridge, and can be accessed at Parking Petition.
By adding your own signature, and encouraging others in your family, neighbours and friends to do likewise, councillors will be left in no doubt of the strength of feeling that exists in our Town concerning parking.
The greater the number of signatories the more likely that action will be taken to solve this long existing restraint on the of future of Weybridge having a vibrant town centre.
Note: the petition closes on 30th July 2018.
