The Society has been active in promoting safe travel for many years through its Transport Panel, who produced a strategy for Weybridge some time ago which you can find on our website – https://www.weybridgesociety.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Weybridge-Transport-Strategy-Apr2010.pdf
A key element of this strategy was to reduce emissions by making cycling and walking more attractive and avoid unnecessary short journeys by car. We are now putting together a new ‘Healthy Travel Weybridge’ programme, which we want to be more participative, working more closely with the authorities on their plans for improving the safety and comfort of getting around Weybridge and bringing more local voices into the conversation. This is not only about making it easier for people to adopt more active forms of travel but also about recognising the effects of individual travel choices on other people’s health, whether it be increased pollution or causing distress through inconsiderate behaviour.
We are very keen to make contact with any Weybridge residents who would like to get involved in this effort and will shortly be setting up a Facebook Group where we can have discussions. To learn more about this programme, see our recent magazine article on the subject. https://www.weybridgesociety.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Share-With-Care-Travel-Campaign-2021-magazine-extract.pdf.
