Amazon van parking off Brooklands Road/Locke King Road
Many residents will be aware of the car parks of the vacant offices off Brooklands Road/Locke King Road being used for the parking of Amazon vans. Delivery drivers are parking their own vehicles there and then taking the Amazon vans to the Amazon warehouse in Brooklands Industrial Park to collect parcels for customer delivery.
It would seem this parking is infringing planning policies since LEOS, who own all the offices, have now put in three retrospective planning applications for “Temporary retention of the operational storage of vans and the temporary installation of external fencing and gates“.
The applications are on the basis that ” the proposed development will also operate pursuant to Use Class B8 (storage use) as an ancillary use to the primary distribution warehouse use within the overall single planning unit“. This seems to mean that the car parks should be regarded as part of the Amazon warehouse which is about 1 mile away by road.
Residents can comment on the applications using the following links.
2023/3232 nominally for 10 vans to park in the 38 existing car spaces
2023/3248 nominally for 70 vans to park in the 205 existing car spaces
2023/3249 nominally for 50 vans to park in the 173 existing car spaces
Total van parking suggested: 130 vans Total existing car spaces: 416
Since LEOS have 3 outstanding planning applications for housing developments on the sites, the concern must be that if these go ahead where will Amazon then park their vans…
Stop Press: LEOS are now taking Elmbridge Borough Council to a Planning Appeal because of the delay in deciding on their latest plans.
