Following feedback from residents and concerns about pedestrian safety, Surrey County Council is proposing two pedestrian crossings on Brooklands Road, near the junction of Station Approach and Brooklands Road.
The area around the train station is regularly busy, with people getting to and from the station, as well as the nearby bus stops. There are currently informal crossing points (with central islands) on Heath Road, Hangar Hill and Brooklands Road.
The council is proposing to upgrade the crossing points on Brooklands Road to zebra crossings. This would improve pedestrian safety and accessibility for pedestrians travelling to and from Weybridge train station and surrounding bus stops.
While the current, informal crossing points, are acceptable for people with unrestricted mobility, they are not as safe for people with disabilities, mobility impairments, children or people with buggies or prams. Having clearly defined zebra crossings would provide pedestrians with priority at key crossing points as well as improving driver awareness and reducing uncertainty. Overall, they would help manage interactions between pedestrians and vehicles more safely and contribute to a safer and more welcoming gateway to Weybridge town centre.
