HandyMan Help

Peter Kipps, of Elmbridge’s Community Safety Partnership has sent the following information:

“Do you need help with small jobs around the home or do you know someone who does? Elmbridge Borough Council is reminding all its elderly and disabled residents that it has a Handyman employed by its Care and Repair Service to help with small jobs around the home at reasonable rates.

Handyman Help is open to anyone living in the Borough of Elmbridge who is aged 70 or over, or has a mental or physical disability.

Jobs which can be done include clearing snow and ice around front and back doors, checking heating controls, fitting draught excluders, providing and fitting grab rails and banister rails, replacing light bulbs, fuses and plugs, fitting doorbells, unblocking sinks, cleaning blocked gullies, putting up curtains, re-hanging doors, replacing broken toilet seats, renewing bath sealant, changing tap and cistern washers, installing door chains, locks and spy holes, smoke alarms and installing/removing key safes.

One satisfied customer recently commented: “It is a brilliant service. It is nice to have somebody who has been police checked to do the work and who you know you can trust. The price is also very reasonable”. There is a labour charge of £17 per hour for this service (or £10 per hour for those receiving a means tested-benefit such as Pension Credit, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit) and materials are charged at cost.

Appointments are available Monday to Friday, between about 8.00 am and 6.00 pm.

For further information or to book some work call 01372 474645.”
