Talk on “The Wey Navigations”

Date Time Location
19th Jan 2012 20:00 St James' Church, Parish Centre, Weybridge

The next meeting of WEYBRIDGE SOCIETY will be held on Thursday, 19 January, 2012 at 8 p.m.
(Doors Open 7.30) in the large hall of St James’ Parish Centre (please note this venue – parking in Churchfields Road car park)

The Speaker will be Mr. Allan Williams who will give an illustrated talk entitled “The Wey Navigations”

Mr Williams is a Volunteer Speaker for the National Trust, and his presentation will cover both the Wey Navigation (1653) and the Godalming Navigation (1760). Weybridge was an important link to The Thames for cargoes from all along the route – including gunpowder – from the Wey navigation’s opening in 1653 up until the 1960s when regular trade ceased. This promises to be an interesting insight into Weybridge’s part in the past.
