We are including this information that has been supplied via the Community Safety Partnership for the younger generation in our area:

“You will know that promoting positive youth activities is one of our priorities for the Community Safety Partnership so this is aimed at all young people and the parents of those young people.

You are now able to register for the Surrey Youth Games 2010 ‘Give it a Go! Sessions!’ The sessions are set to start in March and April 2010, so why not try a new sport for free!   The Surrey Youth Games, sponsored by Procter & Gamble Community Matters is the largest annual youth sports festival in Surrey, and gives over 3,500 young people, aged 7 to 15, experience of a competitive, countywide sporting event.  The main aim is to introduce and provide free opportunities for young people to try new sports.

This year, the games are to be held on the weekend of Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 June 2010.  In preparation for the main competition weekend, Team Elmbridge is holding free, ‘Give it a Go! Sessions!’ (open trials) and coaching from March 2010. Any child who lives or goes to school in Elmbridge has the opportunity to attend our, ‘Give it a Go! Sessions!

This year, the wide variety of sports on offer includes badminton, basketball, boccia, girls cricket, football, hockey, judo, netball, netball high 5, squash, swimming, tag-rugby and tennis. If you would like your child to try a new sport or develop their existing skills by participating in ourfree ‘Give it a Go! Sessions!’ please visit our website www.elmbridge.gov.uk/sport to register online. This is a great opportunity for young people to try a new sport, or to improve their skills by taking part in high quality coaching sessions.

The competition is targeted at below county standard players and many of the ‘Give it a Go! Sessions!’ also prepare young people at beginners level for the competition.  They will gain access to weeks of free coaching and fly the Elmbridge flag at one of the most high profile competitions in the county!”
